Step 4: Master what's going on in your head


Step 4 of 5 in Creating a Career & Life You Love is all about getting curious about what’s happening in your mind.

Why is this important?

Thoughts drive feelings & emotions; feelings & emotions drive behaviors; behaviors become your reality and how people experience YOU… and then they send those same vibes, right back to you!

Let’s explore an example.

Let’s say that you want to become a consultant in your industry - you want freedom to work with clients you love, do the work you’re best at, work remotely and enjoy the flexibility of making your own schedule. Deep down, you know there’s a part of you that wants to do this SO badly. But this voice in your head is keeping you stuck - it’s telling you, you don’t have what it takes, you need more experience, more training/education, you could never sell your services, it’s too scary, etc… There are many reasons why these thoughts are running through your head, but they make you anxious and keep you stuck in a thought-loop of “I’m not good enough to make “X” my reality.”

As a result, you (unconsciously) stop looking for possibilities, success stories, etc… You assume you can’t do it, so it drives behaviors that keep you RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE. People will tell you, it’s a bad idea and they’ll tell you stories about friends who have tried and failed.

Unless… you change the thoughts going through your mind!! When you can change the dialog, you can change your reality! So let’s get curious…

  • What do the voices in your head tell you about accomplishing your vision of success?

    • Are they really mean/critical? Or do they cheer you on?

  • If they’re mean, get curious

    • The voices are there to protect you from something that has hurt you in the past.

    • Remember: the past is not indicative of the future. It’s like the old phrase, “get back on the horse.”

    • What are they trying to protect you from? Why are they there?

    • Sit with the feelings that come up – it can be very uncomfortable, but be compassionate with yourself.

    • You’ll start to allow that belief to heal and eventually feel liberated!

The key here is to be compassionate with your thoughts and beliefs. Love & practice will allow them to change over time (and I mean it, this TAKES TIME) - beating yourself over it all will keep you stuck!

I hope this helps you see yourself, your goals, and possibility - when you can change the way you think about yourself, you can make your dreams happen.
