Get Off The Hamster Wheel
Burnout is real. Whether it's physical, mental or emotional, it's not fun. I don't know anyone wouldn't sign up for a burnout immunity vaccine (even if it had side effects, lol!).
I went through MANY burn outs in college and corporate America, but now, three years into entrepreneurship, a profession that some would say is most well-known for burnout, I've maintained my energy (yes, I still get sick, I'm human) and am still excited (if not more excited about my work). So, what changed?
My Mindset Changed
Towards the end of my Accenture career, I learned that there was a lot more to burnout than working too many hours, eating poorly, skipping the gym or intermittent insomnia. It rooted deeper:
“Burnout is not a simple result of long hours. The cynicism, depression, and lethargy of burnout can occur when you're not in control of how you carry out your job, when you're working toward goals that don't resonate with you, and when you lack social support. If you don't tailor your responsibilities to match your true calling, or at least take a break once in a while, you could face a mountain of mental and physical health problems.”
- Psychology Today
By rebuilding your life and mindset in alignment with your values, strengths and purpose, you not only love what you do, but you create a strong foundation, better equipped to prevent burnout. It takes some time and practice, but the moment you start implementing, you start to reap benefits. And... you don't have to quit your job to do it.
Curious how it works? I'm hosting a free online workshop, November 30th at 1PM CST, to share with you, my 5 step plan to prevent burnout. Join me:
